Creative ways : Eagle meditation

Creative ways: a five minute breather to tune out from the stress and busyness, tune in to peace, stillness and the presence of God. Take a moment, tune out, tune in.

Those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength.

They will soar on wings like eagles;

they will run and not grow weary,

they will walk and not grow faint.

Isaiah 40.31

God created eagles to soar.

He knows how they do it and why,

And He then used them to convey to us this picture,

to help us grasp and understand something of Himself

and what it looks like to Hope in Him...

Using little energy but the warm, rising currents of air,

The eagle gains height and flies over long distances

Seeing clearly and keeping an eye out for its next meal.

Studies have shown that the eagle can sense instinctively

Complex environmental cues

The wind angle and speed, the temperature

But even when faced with extraordinary turbulent conditions

It seems to choose to stay in the core of the thermal

It steadfastly refuses to change direction,

To try different ways to catch a different thermal.

It waits,

And it then continues to rise.

The prophet Isaiah reminds us: keep hoping

Even when we are facing turbulent, wilderness times.

He urges us

Stay in the core - find the warm currents of air

Wait - be patient, don't be distracted by 'other' ways to find peace

Trust - that strength and hope will return, it's a promise we can hold to

Here's another piece of beautiful prose, that encourages us to keep our hope in God, through the turbulent times and that we will come through them. Stronger.

'Who is this,

Coming up from the wilderness,

Leaning on the one she loves?'
